4 Things To Expect When You Start an Exercise Program
by Jonathan & Blakley Fletcher
We got the idea for this post from one of our training + nutrition clients. It can be a little daunting thinking about starting a workout regimen and often that fear leads people to avoid taking action. So let’s talk about what you can expect and put those fears aside so you can start changing your health today.
1. Acclimation
If you haven’t been exercising already, there will be a time of learning. Learning how your body moves, and learning what different exercises feel like when done correctly. Having a guide for this stage is ideal and it’s the reason we include video demo’s and online form checks for our clients. Just like everything in life, we get better as we practice these movements. There will be some exercises you love and some you’ll struggle with. That’s just part of the deal.
2. A little muscle soreness
Your body may let you know it received a new stimulus (exercise activity) by making your muscles sore. A little soreness is not a bad thing, but it’s important not to over-dose exercise in the beginning and cause yourself extreme soreness. Your goal should be to progress with minimal soreness that does not prevent you from training.
3. Progression
When we work out, and then allow our bodies to recover through proper sleep and nutrition we adapt to the workouts and become stronger. That means that you should be seeing consistent improvement in both your strength and endurance in your workouts. If you’re just starting out you will probably see fairly rapid improvements!
4. Self Confidence
Expect to feel more confident in your skin and in the gym as you find your groove. Having a program to follow and knowing exactly what to do each day will lead you to look forward to your workouts. Also, the changes you’re seeing in the mirror will lead to confidence in all aspects of your life.
Share this with a friend who might need a little nudge getting going. There is never a better time to start than right now, so let’s go!
