HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?
How long does it take to lose weight? To some extent it’s a math equation. There are about 3500 calories in a pound of fat. So, if you eat 500 calories less than you burn every day for a week, you would lose about a pound. That’s a huge simplification but you get the idea.
Unless you have an exceptional amount of weight to lose, we don’t recommend losing weight too aggressively. We want to preserve as much muscle mass as possible when losing weight, so we prescribe a moderate to high protein diet along with a conservative calorie deficit.
Remember, we are on the path toward consistency! And the process of losing weight takes time, more than a 30 day challenge, but what taking your time does is it leads you toward lasting results. THAT is what we are after! What we don’t want is a drastic weight loss followed by the same or more weight gain once the challenge is done.
So back to the question at hand: How long does it take?
Answer: A long time.
Weight loss is usually quick at first and then it slows down. If you can lose .5 - 1-lb per week for a month or two you are killing it.
If you are looking to lose 30-50-lbs of body weight I would start looking at a 1-2 year timeline.
We have to remember that the weight gain took time, and unfortunately, so does weight loss but if we stick to our plan we will make it!
