PR CITY

No matter if you're new to training or you've been at it for decades, hitting a personal record is a great feeling.  Working with a coach that knows you and that you can trust is a great way to know if you are ready to go for a record on a given lift.

If you don't have a coach to give you advice, here are some things to consider.

1. As you approach your max, how was your form?  Were there indications that going up in weight may cause a serious break down in form?

2.  How hard was the last rep you just did?  If you had another rep in the tank on that last set, maybe it's time to go for it.  If the last weight was a grinder that left you dizzy, save it for another day.

3.  When was the last time you went for a record on this lift?  Remember that strength increases come from recovery, so if you just set a PR yesterday or the day before, it might be best to wait.

So you've decided to go for it. . Awesome!  Your ability to lift the weight is both dependent on your physical strength and your mental game.  If you approach the lift with any doubt in your mind, you're not going to make it.  If you're afraid of it, you're not going to make it.  If you think it's going to be too heavy, don't bother.

Get your mind right. Visualize succeeding.  Imagine the weight being lighter than expected and making the lift.  Last but not least, get fired up! Put on some music that gets you going.  Record yourself and expect to win!

Now go get it!
