The Olympic Lifts
We’ve talked about how important strength is, and how we build it. So howe do we display this strength?
One of the ways is through the two Olympic Lifts. The two Olympic Lifts are the Snatch and the Clean and Jerk. The snatch takes the barbell from the ground to overhead in one movement while the clean and jerk takes the barbell from the ground to the shoulders and then from the shoulders to overhead in a separate movement. The amount of weight that actual olympians can move with these two exercises is astonishing.
So why should we do them? It’s a way to display our strength in the from of power. Power = Work/Time. In other words, it’s a FAST expression of strength. If you have the underlying strength, you can display that strength. If not, continue to build it.
To sum up… One of the ways we display the strength we’ve worked so hard to gain is through the powerful Olympic Lifts.
