Sleep

It’s funny how much we work to optimize the various aspects of our lives.  We buy the best shoes for our activity.  We spend extra money on local produce and meat from trustworthy sources.  We buy supplements to fill in gaps in our nutrition and to try and prevent injury.  We try many things that require our money and time and we often overlook the low hanging fruit.

Sleep! Almost no one is making sleep a priority when it should be first on the list when looking to make improvements in your physical and mental life.  Remember, when we are in the gym throwing barbells around and working up a sweat, we are breaking our bodies down.  The food we eat, and the sleep we get are the things that actually allow us to make improvements after the time in the gym.  

Stress the body —> Recover ——> Adapt

Most people need about 7 hours of sleep to take advantage of the stage of sleep where hormones are released and muscle rebuilding happens.

So what are the consequences of not getting enough sleep?  

  •  Higher likelihood of getting sick

  • Increased risk of stroke, cancer, diabetes and heart disease

  • Decreased brain function (focus)

  • Decreased libido (no hanky panky)

  • Weight gain

It’s a bad idea friends.  Make sleep a priority starting this week and start to see what a difference it can make, for free!
