LEAN BODY MASS

Lean body mass is the weight of everything in your body that is not fat.  It includes your muscles, organs, your skin, water weight, your bones etc.

There have been studies done that show that the higher your lean body mass as you age, the lower your chance of death is.

The way we maintain and even increase lean body mass is through resistance training (lifting weights).

As we’ve talked about before, it’s also important to eat a protein rich diet when considering lean body mass since the amino acids in protein are the building blocks of muscle.  

Don’t confuse lean body mass with body fat percentage.  We will cover that in a later post.
