Your best shape ever - without the burnout
How much money does it take to be happy?
$10?
$10,000?
$100,000?
$1,000,000?
In 2018, a Purdue University study found that life satisfaction peaked at around $95,000 per year.
In the study, life satisfaction took into account how well you think you're doing overall, which included comparing yourself to your peers.
How about emotional happiness?
Your day-to-day level of joy, sadness, excitement, etc.
That peaked at around a $75,000 salary.
In other words, you won’t necessarily be happier just because you make 100k, 200k, or 300k.
There’s a point of diminishing returns.
There’s a sweet spot—enough to live well without the stress of scarcity or the burnout of excess.
I thought about this in my own life.
If I were still selling shoes at Foot Locker for minimum wage, I'd be scraping by in a tiny, bug-infested Houston apartment, eating ramen, and adjusting the rabbit ears on my TV to catch an Astros game. Not ideal.
What if T Swift posted about Digital Barbell, and suddenly, we had thousands of new clients and cash coming out of our ears?
We’d be buried in work, overwhelmed, and completely burnt out. Sure, the bank account and fleet of Airstreams would be nice, but we'd have no time to enjoy any of it.
There’s a balance—a point where you have enough without it taking over your life.
Fitness works the same way.
On one extreme, you hardly ever work out, live off fast food, carry an extra 25 pounds, and you feel sluggish and insecure about how you look.
On the other, the gym is your life, you weigh your food at restaurants, avoid social events, obsess over every ounce of body fat, and annoy everyone in your life.
You look great, but is it worth it?
The key is finding the sweet spot—where you’re strong, fit, and confident without sacrificing your sanity.
✅ You work out 3-5 times a week.
✅ You eat mostly home-cooked meals but enjoy yourself guilt-free when you go out.
✅ You stay active, but don’t panic if you miss a workout.
✅ You look and feel great without letting fitness take over your life.
The trade-offs make sense.
You won’t be stepping on a bodybuilding stage, and you might weigh 5-10 lbs more than your "ideal," but you’ll be happy.
If you’re tired of the extremes and want to live in the sweet spot, let’s talk.
