This tiny change makes fitness 10x easier

Moving from a 2,700-square-foot house into a 27-linear-foot Airstream has been eye-opening.

Over the last month, everything we’ve accumulated in 23 years of marriage has been put to this test:

Do we want or need this?

If the answer was “no,” it was donated or taken to the dump.

If the answer was “yes,” it went into the RV or a 10x30-foot storage unit.

Now, two days out from setting sail on this journey (do RVs set sail?), the house is empty.

A 300 square foot storage space with 10-foot-tall ceilings is packed with things we like but don’t need daily.

As I sit here in the Airstream writing this email, I have everything I need to be happy, content, and—I'd argue—to thrive.

What I mean is that the whole idea of less is more may actually be right.

I may be eating my words six months from now, but you’ll be the first to know.

One thing I’m firm on: the less is more principle absolutely applies to your health and fitness.

As you sort through the endless options to get in shape, lose weight, be strong, gain longevity, improve mobility, and just feel comfortable in your skin…

99.9% of what you come across should go straight to the dump.

Stuff like:

  • Supplements that promise a shortcut

  • Diets that make certain foods off-limits

  • Detoxes and resets that only drain your bank account

  • Hardcore workouts that leave you sore for a week

If you let your "house" accumulate this kind of junk, you’ll feel overwhelmed, confused, and like a failure for not following the rules.

But if you weed things down to the basics that actually matter, the list gets short, makes sense, and gives you peace without the overwhelm.

Stuff like:

  • Eating mostly foods that walked on or grew out of the Earth—and a little of the more processed stuff.

  • Being active on purpose by going for a walk most days. (Your dog will like this too.)

  • Lifting weights three or four times per week following a simple, effective program. #shamelessplug

  • Making the best decision you can in the moment, avoiding the all-or-nothing mentality, and getting back on track as soon as possible.

Those are the bare-bones essentials you need on your journey if you want to ditch the overwhelm and stay in shape for life.
