Top 3 Reasons You Don’t Look Like You Lift

Cutting carbs won’t help you.

A Peloton bike isn’t the answer.

Burning more calories is a waste of time.

Even more CrossFit or HIIT workouts won’t save the day.

They’re all dead ends that will never make you look like you work out.

Yes, aesthetic goals are superficial and will never make you happy if you can’t love yourself otherwise…

But in 12+ years of coaching over a thousand people we’ve yet to encounter the person who joins our coaching program that doesn’t want to see physical results from their effort.

If you’re investing your precious time and money in the gym, it’s o.k. if you want to see that effort in the mirror.

You don’t want to look like a juiced-up bodybuilder, you just want to see some definition in your arms, shoulders, legs, and back.

You want your clothes to be tight in the right places and you want to feel confident when it’s time for a group photo.

The formula to make that happen, you know… “to look like you work out”, isn’t complicated.

It’s not a secret. It’s not reserved for the rich or genetically gifted either.

Yet, most gyms and group classes are chock-full of folks literally working their butts off, with not much to show for it.

If you saw them on the street you’d never believe they work out 3, 4, or 5 days a week.

Maybe that’s you right now? I know Blakley and I lived that life for a long time:

From our experience we’ve found that there are 10 common reasons why You’re Working Out, But You Don’t Look Like It.

In Tuesday’s podcast I narrowed it down to the top 3 reasons. Here they are:

3 - You’re Always Focused On Losing Weight

Diet culture, social media, and popular culture has brainwashed you into thinking that shrinking yourself down and weighing as much as you did as a teenager is nirvana.

So you do starvation diets like Optavia, Juice Cleanses, Intermittent Fasting, and other low-calorie nonsense that always result in rapid weight loss, rapid regain, and no positive change to your physique in the end.

2 - You Exercise to Burn Calories, Not Train to Build Muscle

You walk into the gym, hit the streets for a run, or hop on your bike with the goal of burning away those pesky calories you think are holding you back.

400, 500, 600+ - Whatever your number is… Once you burn enough, you feel like the workout was a success.

Yet even after months of all that burning, your muscles are seemingly in witness protection, and you just look like a smaller, still undefined version of yourself.

1 - You’re Not Lifting Heavy and You’re Not Getting Stronger

“Lift heavy? No thanks. I don’t want to get big and bulky, and I sure don’t want to get hurt. I’ll stick with my 10lb weights and just do more reps. That’s how you tone up, right?”

I’ll answer that question with a quote from Dr. Phil:

How is that working out for you so far?

I bet you’re good at getting sore, but not as good at changing your physique.

At Digital Barbell we believe that if you work hard, you deserve results.

It’s why our training program is designed the way it is.

Every week Blakley crafts the framework of our training to ensure it’s:

  • Safe

  • Fun

  • Building your strength

  • Building your muscle

  • Building your ability

  • Building your body

You truly can have it all without wasting time on things that don’t work.

The best part is that you don’t have to figure out what to do on your own.

We’ll handle that part, and we can even coach you and hold you accountable along the way.

Lift heavy, and be nice.
